  1. What is Winter Magic?
    Come one, come all, to Winter Magic – the most fantastic of drive-thru holiday events in Kansas City. A world of winter wonder awaits you! Don’t worry about Krampus (or COVID-19), you’ll be safe in your car the whole time. Hey, wear your pajamas and bring your hot chocolate, if it pulls your sled. Drive thru nearly one mile of the most amazing, mesmerizing, WINTERrifically magical holiday light experiences you’ve ever laid your gazers on. See the elves work the toy factory, cruise through the longest light tunnel in the Midwest, be hypnotized by our spinning trees, rock the elf out in Pixel Town, and so much more. Elf buddies Peerpil and Alinor will be at the gate to greet you. I’m telling ya, your snodsokklers will probably never believe you.

    See the holiday magic every night this season in historic Swope Park (next to the Kansas City Zoo). The magic runs November 2nd through the new year. Timeslots are available every night of the week. Check available times here. Winter Magic (in partnership with KC Parks) is the city’s premier COVID-free, drive thru winter event. Plus, proceeds benefit KC Parks Summer Camp Scholarship Fund – making sure local children have access to summer learning and fun. Winter wonder for a wonderful cause.   3. Will there be long lines?
    Sometimes. On and around holidays are the busiest times at Winter Magic. Weekends are also very popular. On these nights, you can expect wait times to be near or sometimes even exceed 1 hour. Please plan restrooms, snacks, and activities accordingly.
  4. Why do we have to buy timed slots?
    The timed slots allow us to funnel traffic more efficiently. Otherwise, everyone would arrive between 6 and 7pm.
  5. Do I have to arrive at my slotted time?
    This is tricky to answer. Truthfully, if you arrive at a different time with a sob story, we are going to wave you through. But, arriving during your ticketed hour helps us a ton to manage traffic.

    If you are running early or behind. Don’t worry too much. Arrive when you can (before close that night) and you will have no trouble getting in.
  6. Do the lights dance to music?
    Yes! Many of the lights, including the Midwest’s longest animated light tunnel, will synchronize to the music. You will only need an FM radio in your vehicle to hear the songs.
  7. How much does it cost to go to Winter Magic?
    $20 + taxes/fees per standard vehicle
    $30 + taxes/fees per limousine or commercial van under 13-ft high
    $40 + taxes/fees per commercial bus under 13-ft high

  8. Can we buy tickets at the gate?
    Tickets are available for advance purchase online or by credit card only at the gate. Buying your tickets ahead of time helps us control traffic and lower wait times.
  9. Do you accept CASH?
    NO. The onsite ticket attendant will not be accepting CASH.
  10. What happens in case of inclement weather?
    Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Just kidding, kind of! We will update our website HERE, if the park is closed due to inclement weather conditions. Additionally, we will send an email to the email you used to buy your tickets. We have a two week use-by policy. What does this mean? It means your ticket is good for two weeks from the date of “missed” attendance, while the event is still running (through January 2nd). Just contact us at to rebook!
  11. When is the park open?

  12. Where is Winter Magic?
    We are located on Oakwood Drive in Swope Park. See our DIRECTIONS page for a link to google maps directions.
  13. Can we get out of our cars?
    No. No one will be allowed outside of their vehicle. All pictures of the lights will need to be taken by one of your passengers, safely from within the vehicle.
  14. Will there be live entertainment?
    No. Many of the lights are pre-programmed with music. There will be no live entertainment.
  15. Will there be food available?
    Yes! Wednesday through Sunday nights plus select others. We will be selling Old-fashioned Kettle Corn, Cinnamon Popcorn, Cheese Popcorn, Hot Chocolate, Warm Apple Cider, and more. An attendant will approach your vehicle. Just wave them off if not interested… Available while supplies last.
  16. Will there be vendors?
    Jack’s Kettle Corn will be vending holiday favs. They accept cash or card.
  17. Can I pull my trailer though?
    No. Trailers will not be allowed in.
  18. What is the max vehicle size allowed?
    Vehicles under 13ft high will not be restricted.
  19. How do I determine a van versus a bus?
    We consider a van a commercial vehicle with 15 or fewer passenger seats. More than that, you are considered a bus. If it is your personal vehicle, you are a standard car.
  20. Do you offer corporate/group discount?
    Yes, please contact us at at least two days in advance.
  21. Can I donate to the KC Parks Summer Scholarship Fund?
    Yes! You will have the option to donate additional money to the fund during checkout. Thanks for helping needy KC kids and families! You are a terrific human.
